Are You Paying Attention?
Right now - this day, my life is inside out. It is a space of infinite connection, time spent between spaces of thought and action, reflection upon life’s up and downs – and a coming home. What does this mean – “a coming home”?
For many years a great disconnection from who I thought I was supposed to be and who we all really are, transpired into a deepening spiral of joyless days and ever darkening thoughts. Any addiction will do that to one’s Soul.
It took a mighty push to realise that we are NEVER disconnected from what is true and real – it is really how tainted the link is.
Listen to your life just as you walk in Nature. You may hear different genres, see differing views. But you may also see and hear the same ones over and over again.
Wouldn’t it be great if you can do this? Just like a song on your player or radio, let it make you feel what you really feel. No pretensions. Let it inspire you.
And just how do we do this? I’m a landscaping expert, and I love different types of gardens. And in the recent years, I’ve come to decide to make the most of my life. So here are my thoughts on how we can accomplish this.
Be sensitive.
Often, there are views and even feelings that we don’t notice when we’re going about our regular routine. When we stop, listen and really see more calmly, more closely, we hear and appreciate something beautiful, even magical, that’s been there all along.
Appreciate the importance of time.
Time is a defining element in nature and in life. It’s one of the things that distinguish summer from winter, spring from autumn, and so on. Recognising the significance of time in life helps us keep our patience and even do the right thing at the right moment. It helps us avoid being impulsive and do hasty decisions.
Remember and connect patterns and events.
When you’re able to recall and relate patterns in different seasons, you’re more likely to appreciate them further. In life, remembering past events and seeing their connection with the present can make us more fulfilled. The good ones make us happier, while the not-so-good ones give us life lessons. It’s up to us to use our memories to help us understand better our purpose and passion in life.
Focus.
You definitely need this when you’re out in nature whether it be for 5 minutes, 1 hour, all day or even more. But if you keep your ears to whatever song is playing and make the effort of knowing who really creates it all, you’ll still be able to follow where the path is taking you and recognise it as a whole work.
It’s much like setting goals and keeping your eyes set on them when pertaining to any aspect of life. Staying focused will help you attain your goal no matter how “hot” or “cold” or “windy” it gets around you.
Embrace its uniqueness.
Every piece of land has its own characteristic, just as your life has its own defining moments. You usually just walk in it and appreciate its outstanding features. Sometimes, they’re so distinctive that you can name them one by one. But there are times that they’re so simple yet so vague you can’t point them out. And yet you love the complete piece. We can treat life in the same way. After all, picking out only certain measures in a piece of nature will leave you with just meaningless thoughts. Having only one season and no transition between them is just plain tiring. Embrace it – all its simplicity and peculiarity. Listen to its harmony.
Have you tried being attentive to your life?
How did it feel?
Any interesting rhythms you’d want to play in over and over?
Let it lead you home.
